The Hangar
The Hangar is a provision carefully adapted to meet the needs of children with a diagnosis of Autism or those who have social communication difficulties. The room has been thoughtfully designed to be a low-sensory environment, providing a calm and supportive alternative to the classroom when children need a quieter space to learn or regulate their emotions. The environment includes smaller group tables that allow children to work in more focused, manageable groups, helping to reduce noise and distraction while supporting engagement with learning.
Within the space there is also a dedicated calming area where children can take time to regulate and feel settled before returning to learning. The Hangar is supported by trained adults who specialise in supporting children with Autism and social communication needs, ensuring that strategies and approaches are consistent, understanding, and tailored to each child. A range of carefully selected resources are also available to support communication, sensory regulation, and structured learning. Through this provision, children are supported to feel safe, understood, and confident so that they can develop their independence, build positive relationships, and successfully access the wider school environment.
