Governor Information
The Governing Board is accountable to the Inicio Educational Trust which is in turn accountable to the Department of Education. Inicio is responsible for funds delegated to the school.
The Local Governing Board oversees the running of the school and is also responsible for the standard of education the school provides. There are particular statutory responsibilities in relation to, for example, admissions, attendance and behaviour, curriculum, provision for children with special educational needs, premises, staffing, finance, complaints and inspections.
In essence, the conduct and overall management of the school is under the direction of the Governing Board. They work at the strategic level, the day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher, who reports to the Governing Board.
Our Governing Board consists of:
- The Headteacher
- 2 Governors who are parents and are directly elected by the parent body
- 1 Governor who is employed by the school and who are directly elected representatives of the staff;
- 3 Co-opted Governors
- Clerk to the Governing Body
Governors are appointed for a term of 4 years. Parent Governors can complete their term even if their child leaves the School.
| Laura Tully - Chair of Governors |
I am proud to serve as Chair of Governors at Biggin Hill Primary School and have been a school governor for almost nine years. I am deeply committed to ensuring every child benefits from a respectful, inclusive and high-quality education that supports both learning and personal development. The Governing Body acts as a critical friend to school leaders, providing support and constructive challenge across education, safeguarding and community engagement. I strongly value the role of parents and carers and believe that an engaged, trusting and supportive school community has a positive impact on children’s experience and outcomes. Professionally, I bring over 20 years’ experience across the construction and architecture industries, alongside a background in design and business management. More recently, I have worked in education and charity settings, managing professional mentorship programmes and specialist courses, with responsibilities including communications, marketing, events and stakeholder engagement. I am currently starting a role as Communications Manager for an award-winning autism charity, where inclusive communication, impact evaluation and meaningful community connection are central to the organisation’s mission. I am enduringly curious, and I believe this mindset supports my work as a governor and my connection with the children we champion. I relish learning from people and situations, questioning my own opinions and actively seeking balance and counter-views. Never forgetting what it feels like to find wonder in the world feels important to me. I am confident but not complacent in my approach. As a parent of two children now in secondary education, I remain committed to supporting Biggin Hill Primary School in nurturing confident, kind and curious learners, enabling every child to flourish both academically and personally. |

| Maria Daley (Vice Chair of Governors) |
I am proud to hold the position of Vice-Chair of Governors after already serving five years as a governor at the school. I have lived in Biggin Hill for over 20 years and am a proud mother of three children, two of whom attended BHPS and one who joined the school in 2022. Over the years I have enjoyed volunteering at the school, supporting pupils with reading and maths, which has strengthened my passion for education and the important role schools play within the community. I strongly believe that our school should provide a safe, engaging and inclusive environment where every child can learn, develop and grow. It is vital that children are supported not only to reach their full academic potential, but also to develop the confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing that will support them throughout their lives. Professionally, I have over 17 years’ experience working in the corporate sector in London, where I contributed to strategic decision-making across a broad range of disciplines. This experience has given me valuable insight into governance, leadership and effective organisational practices. Alongside this, I co-care for my brother who has severe learning disabilities. This has deepened my understanding of the importance of patience, inclusion and compassion, particularly within group and educational settings. I also have a strong appreciation for nature and actively advocate for mental health awareness across all ages. As Vice-Chair of Governors, I am committed to using my professional experience, community connection and personal perspective to support the governing body in strengthening processes, ensuring effective oversight, and helping to shape a positive and ambitious future for our school. |

I recently joined the Board of Governors at Biggin Hill Primary School as a co-opted Governor. Although I am new to the Governor role, I have 15 years’ experience as a primary school teacher working across several London boroughs. Most recently, I was Reading Leader at a school in Orpington, where I oversaw the phonics program and helped to foster a love of reading across the school. I am passionate about education and committed to ensuring that every child has a strong and positive start to their learning journey.
I am currently on a career break, spending time at home with my two children, one of whom attends another school in the Inicio Trust. I am delighted to have the opportunity to bring my professional knowledge and experience to this role and I am fully committed to supporting the values and ethos of Biggin Hill Primary School. |
